New Delhi: Following the conclusion of the intense Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign on May 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. This visit, intended as a spiritual retreat, will see PM Modi engaging in deep meditation at the Dhyan Mandapam, where Swami Vivekananda once meditated.

Arrival and departure schedule

PM Modi is expected to arrive at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, located near the statue of the revered Tamil saint Tiruvalluvar, on the evening of May 30. His stay will span until June 1, after which he is scheduled to return to Delhi.

Historical, spiritual significance of Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari holds a profound place in Indian spirituality, being the southernmost tip of the country where the Eastern and Western coastlines converge. This confluence of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea also served as a significant location in the life of Swami Vivekananda. It was here that Vivekananda had a vision of ‘Bharat Mata’ after three days of meditation, shaping his vision for a developed India. The rock holds a pivotal place in his spiritual journey, much like Sarnath does for Gautam Buddha.

A habit?

This visit continues PM Modi’s tradition of undertaking spiritual journeys following election campaigns. In 2019, he visited Kedarnath, and in 2014, he paid homage to Shivaji’s Pratapgarh. These retreats underscore his commitment to spiritual reflection and rejuvenation after the rigorous demands of electioneering.
