Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 16 will inaugurate the ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ the mega National Tribe Festival in New Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda, made this announcement during a media briefing in New Delhi. Ms. Renuka Saruta, a minister of state for tribal affairs, also attended the event.

He said that Prime Minister has led the charge in implementing policies for the welfare of the nation’s tribal population while also paying appropriate regard to their contribution to the expansion and development of the nation. The Minister added that the Tribal Affairs Ministry is working tirelessly to ensure that tribal tribes fully participate in and are involved in achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’.

According to an official statement, the ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ is an annual project of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Limited (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. It honours the spirit of tribal culture, crafts, gastronomy, trade, and traditional art. This year, it will take place at Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium from February 16 to February 27. In nearly 200 stalls at the venue, the programme will present the rich and varied legacy of tribes from all around the nation. Around 1000 artisans and artists from 28 states/UTs will take part in the festival.

Along with the typical attractions like handicrafts, handloom, ceramics, jewellery, etc., the Mahotsav will have a special focus on exhibiting Shree Anna grown by tribal people because 2023 is being observed as the International Year of Millets.

The main attraction of the event will be Organic products produced by tribal communities can play a big role in combating the challenge of global warming. Almost 39 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras from 17 States/UTs are expected to participate in this festival.

Gallery of Tribal Freedom Fighters

Narrations of the stories of tribal freedom fighters are provided by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) and NCZCC twice each day.

The dissemination of knowledge regarding National Educational Society interventions in education and technology regarding former top achievers in various fields and at EMRS schools. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ Republic Day Tableau, which won first place during the celebration of Republic Day in 2023, will also be on display.

As part of their promotion of their plan, they displayed tribal stamp collections in outlying areas.

Approximately 500 tribal artists representing about 20 states of the country will perform tribal cultural performances based on tribal rituals, harvest festivals, and martial arts. During the event, the performances from different states shall be showcasing rich tribal cultural diversity.

The concept of organising ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ in major cities has proved to be a boon for tribal artisans by eliminating middle men. This gives them direct access to large markets.

The “Aadi Mahotsav – National Tribal Festival” is organised by TRIFED, a ministry of tribal affairs organisation, to give tribal master-craftsmen and women direct market access in major cities and state capitals.
