PM Modi releases 1st instalment of PM-JANMAN yojana to 1 lakh beneficiaries

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released the first installment of PM-JANMAN yojana. The welfare scheme of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) through the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) initiative will benefit 1 lakh people with the first installment. The first installment is worth Rs 540 crore, in total.

According to the official press release, PM-JANMAN, with a budget of approximately Rs 24,000 crore, focuses on 11 critical interventions through 9 Ministries and is aimed to improve socio-economic conditions of the PVTGs by saturating PVTG households and habitations with basic facilities such as safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition, electricity, road and telecom connectivity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Interacting with the beneficiaries of PM-JANMAN

During the event, PM Modi also spoke to beneficiaries through video-conferencing. This interaction serves as a way to understand their needs and concerns directly and ensures transparency in the implementation of the scheme.

This step by the government is aimed at improving the living conditions and overall well-being of PVTGs, who often face marginalisation and social exclusion. This initiative is expected to benefit around 50 lakh PVTG families across 18 states and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In addition to this, with the budget of Rs 24,000, the government will work on 11 critical interventions under PM-JANMAN include land rights, education, health, livelihood, and cultural preservation.

According to the official data, almost 7,500 camps have been organised in over 100 districts in which essential documents required for the benefits of the scheme.

Apart from this, there are proposals for 100 girls' hostels, 900 Anganwadi centres, 100 medical units, and 400 multipurpose centres which have been accepted.
