New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at Singapore’s Parliament House on Thursday. Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong greeted PM Modi, and the two leaders shared a warm moment of camaraderie. After signing the visitors' book, PM Modi interacted with ministers and delegates from both nations, setting the stage for a day of significant engagements.
PM Modi arrived in Singapore on Wednesday, and his visit is expected to further enhance the longstanding relationship between India and Singapore. Both countries are anticipated to sign a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) following a meeting between PM Modi and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong later in the day. The MoUs aim to foster greater collaboration in areas like trade, investment, and technology.
Later in the day, PM Modi will visit AEM Holdings Ltd's semiconductor facility, accompanied by Prime Minister Wong. Before the visit, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong will host a luncheon in honor of PM Modi.
During his visit, PM Modi will also meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. After a business roundtable with top CEOs, PM Modi is expected to return to New Delhi.
Both leaders took to social media, with PM Modi expressing his joy at meeting PM Wong, calling it an "excellent discussion on a wide range of issues." Wong, on his part, warmly welcomed Modi to Singapore, sharing a picture from their dinner at Istana, the president’s official residence.

A key highlight of PM Modi's visit is the effort to create synergies between the semiconductor industries of India and Singapore. Both Prime Ministers are scheduled to tour a leading semiconductor manufacturing facility, underscoring their commitment to enhancing cooperation in this critical sector. Officials have confirmed that multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed, focusing on manpower development in the semiconductor field. This agreement will open doors for India’s youth, fostering better skilling opportunities while encouraging Singaporean firms to recruit from India's talent pool.
