Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), ‘YashoBhoomi’, in Delhi’s Dwarka on Sunday. This day also coincides with his birthday, September 17.

The ‘YashoBhoomi’ convention has a total project area of over 8.9 lakh square metres and a built-up area of more than 1.8 lakh square metres which makes this centre find its place.
As Modi launched the ‘YashoBhoomi’ centre in Delhi’s Dwarka, Bharat Mata ki Jai’ chants reverberated at the convention centre. Moreover, PM Modi took the metro while travelling to the convention centre and interacted with the passengers throughout the ride.

At this event PM, Modi also inaugurated the extension of the Delhi metro airport line and launched his government’s ambitious scheme, “PM Vishwakarma”, which is aimed at helping artisans and craftsmen and others engaged in traditional skills on the occasion. Upon his arrival at ‘‘YashoBhoomi’ ‘ PM Modi also met with the traditional artisans present at the centre.

PM Modi launches Vishwakarma scheme


The Vishwakarma scheme is the new policy of the government to help the traditional arts and crafts practitioners of India. Since most of the people who follow and engage in this practice belong to Other Backward Classes, the scheme with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore is also being seen as the ruling BJP’s outreach to the politically important segment. PM Modi also launched the symbol, tagline and portal of ‘PM Vishwakarma’ during this event.

As per Modi’s speech at the launch, the government will provide up to Rs 3 lakh loan without any (bank) guarantee under the PM Vishwakarma scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Under the PM Vishwakarma scheme, the government will provide up to Rs 3 lakhs loan without any (bank) guarantee. It has also been ensured that the interest rate is also very low. Govt has decided that Rs 1 lakh loan will be given in the beginning and when it is repaid, govt will provide additional Rs 2 lakhs loan to the Vishwakarma partners.”

Modi also said “Today the nation has gotten the International Exhibition Centre YashoBhoomi. The kind of work is done here, it displays the penances of my Vishwakarma brothers. I declare this centre to every Vishwakarma of the nation.”

“This is going to be helpful to the Vishwakarma. This will be a vibrant centre to make Indian art and handicrafts reach the global level. This will play a huge role in making local products global… The way the spine is essential in our body, and our Vishwakarma are essential for society… Everyday life is unimaginable without them,” he added.

‘YashoBhoomi’ centre

The Yashobhoomi convention centre will be one of the largest MICE facilities in the world the convention centre built across more than 73,000 square metres of area, comprises 15 convention rooms, including, the main auditorium, a ballroom and 13 meeting rooms with a total capacity of holding 11,000 delegates.

The centre will also be connected with the Delhi Airport Metro Express line with the inauguration of the new metro station at Dwarka Sector 25. Delhi Metro will also increase the operational speed of Metro trains on Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 kilometres per hour reducing the travel time. The total journey from ‘New Delhi’ to ‘‘YashoBhoomi’ Dwarka Sector 25’ will take about 21 minutes.
