PM Modi fulfills 2018 guarantee, revives Sindri fertilizer plant in Jharkhand

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a revived fertilizer plant in Sindri, Jharkhand that will add 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of domestic urea production per year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 35,700 crore in Jharkhand. The highlights included an Rs 8,900-crore fertilizer plant at Sindri in Dhanbad district.

PM Modi also launched rail, power and coal projects in Jharkhand together valued at over Rs 26,000 crore.

Addressing the public gathering in Sindri, PM Modi hailed the occasion as a major boost for the state, saying “Today, Jharkhand has received a gift of projects worth over Rs 35,000 crore. I want to congratulate our farmer brothers, people of Tribal society, and people of Jharkhand for these projects.”

"It was Modi’s guarantee to revive the Sindri fertiliser plant and it was fulfilled today. With the dedication of this plant to the nation, India will become self-dependent in urea," he added.

The new fertilizer plant of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd, the third such revived facility in the country, will add about 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of domestic urea production annually.

"In 2018, I had come to lay the foundation stone of this Sindri plant. Today, not only has the plant started production, but thousands of new job opportunities for the youth of the country and Jharkhand have also commenced," the prime minister remarked. 

Modi emphasized his government's focus on Jharkhand's development over the past decade, with priority on tribal communities, the poor, youth and women.

“We have to transform our country before 2047. India is among the fastest growing economies globally, outperforming all expectations,” he said, referring to the 8%+ GDP growth in the last quarter of 2023-24.

Speaking at the event, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren said, “We have to prosper Jharkhand. In Sindri, we need to enhance irrigation facilities...Today is a special day as the Prime Minister is here...The Sindri plant output will benefit agriculture and our farmers."

PM Modi also held a roadshow in Dhanbad where people showered him with flower petals amid waves and cheers from the gathered crowds.
