A major controversy erupted after a video of TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar got aired on TV and surfaced on social media.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his pain over the theatricals by a member in the "sacred" Parliament complex, calling it "unfortunate," according to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday. A day earlier, Modi had expressed his agony over being teased and ridiculed by suspended TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee outside the Parliament.

Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after video clips of suspended TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee ostensibly mimicking Jagdeep Dhankhar on the steps of the new Parliament building were aired on TV.

None of the insults will make me change my path: Jagdeep Dhankhar

Responding to PM Modi’s call, the vice president said that he is committed for performing his duties and upholding the principles enshrined in our constitution. Taking it to his X handle, he tweeted, “Mr. Prime Minister, the antics of a few won’t prevent me from performing my duty and upholding the principles enshrined in our Constitution. I am committed to those values from the bottom of my heart. None of the insults will make me change my path.”

What is the incident all about?

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee imitated Dhankhar in front of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and other opposition MPs on Tuesday during a demonstration at the Parliament building, asking Union Minister Amit Shah to comment on the Parliament Security Breach.
