PM Modi, Congress leaders extend warm wishes to former PM Manmohan Singh on his 92nd birthday

Manmohan Singh's birthday: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and several other political figures extended heartfelt birthday wishes to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday, September 26. Dr Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, turned 92 today. Born in Punjab in 1932, Singh is widely respected for his contributions to India’s economic reforms and political landscape.

Rahul Gandhi praises Singh's wisdom and humility

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, also took to social media to honour Dr. Singh. He tweeted, "Your humility, wisdom, and selfless service in shaping our country's future continue to inspire me and millions of Indians. Wishing you good health and happiness always!"

Congress President Kharge highlight Singh's contributions

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the former prime minister, praising his simplicity and significant contributions to the nation. "He stands as a rare embodiment of simplicity, dignity, and ingenuity in the realm of politics. A visionary statesman, whose actions spoke louder than words, we remain deeply grateful for his tremendous and invaluable contributions to the nation," Kharge said. He further wished Dr. Singh good health, happiness, and a long life ahead.

A legacy of economic reforms and leadership

Manmohan Singh, who played a crucial role in India’s economic reforms during his tenure as finance minister under PV Narasimha Rao from 1991 to 1996, remains a key figure in the country’s political landscape. His economic policies are credited with laying the foundation for India's rapid economic growth in the years that followed. 

In addition to his tenure as prime minister, Dr. Singh served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 1991 to 2024, during which he also held the position of Leader of the Opposition between 1998 and 2004.
