PM Modi condemns civilians’ death in Israel-Hamas war at Voice of the Global South Summit

While delivering the opening speech at Voice of the Global South Summit on Friday, PM Narendra Modi condemned the death of civilians in the deadliest war between Israel and Hamas. 

PM Modi also highlighted the raising concerns in West Asia amid escalating challenge due to ongoing conflict. He said that India's steadfast opposition to terrorism and acts of violence, particularly the attacks on Israel by Hamas on October 7. 

The Prime Minister emphasised that the cornerstones of conflict resolution are discussion and practising restraint.

"We all are seeing that new challenges are emerging from the events in the West Asia region. India has condemned the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7," PM Modi said.

"We have exercised restraint as well. We have given emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy. We also strongly condemn the deaths of civilians in the conflict between Israel and Hamas," he added.

Global South always existed geographically, but getting voice for the first time: PM Modi

Underlining the importance of the Global South, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that it has always existed geographically but it is getting voice for first time due to joint efforts.

While addressing the inaugural session of the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit virtually, PM Modi said, "Geographically, the Global South has always existed, but it is getting a voice for the first time, and this is because of the joint efforts. We are more than 100 countries but our priorities are similar."

"Last year, during the G20 Summit, our attempt was to focus on the development of the people, by the people and for the people...," PM Modi said.

In addition to this, PM Modi also asserted that India is set to organise the Artificial Global Partnership Summit next month, which is scheduled to take place from December 12-14, in the national capital. The summit will not only focus on the various critical aspects of AI but will also responsible of data governance, the future of work, innovation and commercialisation. 

Furthermore, PM Modi said that India believes that new technology should not widen the gap between the Global North and the Global South.
