Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to ministers and officials of the department concerned to take stock of the situation on the excessive rainfall in the country.

According to the officials, the national and the state disaster team are working to assist people by rain. Taking it to the official handle, PMO said, “PM @narendramodi spoke to senior Ministers and officials, and took stock of the situation in the wake of excessive rainfall in parts of India. Local administrations, NDRF and SDRF teams are working to ensure the well-being of those affected.”

Dr Charan Singh, Head of the Regional Meteorology Centre here, said on Sunday that there are chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan.

“If we speak about Northwest India, especially the mountains then all the Himalayan regions especially Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will witness extremely heavy rainfall for the next two days and after that, the intensity of rainfall will decrease, but heavy rainfall will continue to occur. If we speak about Jammu and Kashmir, there are chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours and after that of heavy rainfall”, Singh had said.

“As far as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan are concerned, there are chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days, but the intensity will decrease after two days. Rainfall activity will continue to occur over northwest India,” he added.

Union Minister reviewed the situation

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed the flood situation and its impact on National Highways in several states, including J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and others. According to the sources, the special meeting was attended by the Secretary of Road Transport and Highways, NHAI Chairman, DG Roads, and other officers. During the meeting, Gadkari instructed the officials to prioritise the repair and maintenance of the affected highways.

We are ready to tackle the situation: Delhi CM

Delhi experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday that surpassed a 41-year record, flooding many districts. Quoting as ‘No flood-like situation in Delhi,’ Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also holds the meet to curb with the situation.

 Due to Delhi’s rising water level, NDRF authorities stated that personnel at its Ghaziabad centre were prepared to handle any unforeseen crisis.

Himachal’s CM appeals to people to stay at home

Notably, in Himachal Pradesh, rain-related incidents have claimed the lives of around 14 individuals. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state’s chief minister, appealed to residents to stay inside for the next 24 hours due to the likelihood of very heavy rainfall.

Three helplines have been established by the state for those who require assistance: 1100, 1070, and 1077.
