Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing deep concern for the flood-affected people of Tamil Nadu in the aftermath of Cyclone 'Michaung', assured the state of the Centre's unwavering support during a public event in Tiruchirappalli.
Chief Minister MK Stalin, in turn, urged PM Modi to categorise the floods as a national disaster, seeking increased central funds for relief and rehabilitation.
PM Modi, acknowledging the challenges faced by the people due to heavy rainfall and flooding, pledged full support to Tamil Nadu. He assured that the Central Government stands in solidarity with the state during this challenging period and is ready to extend all possible assistance.
During the same event, CM Stalin appealed to PM Modi to declare the floods in Tamil Nadu as a national calamity. Highlighting the widespread destruction of public infrastructure and the disruption of countless lives, Stalin sought increased central funds to aid in the relief and rehabilitation efforts.
PM Modi paid tribute to the late actor and DMDK president Vijayakanth, commending his commitment to national interests. Additionally, he remembered the late agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan, acknowledging his pivotal role in India's 'green revolution' and ensuring food security for the nation.
Both the state government and the Centre have initiated a comprehensive rescue and relief operation to address the challenges posed by the floods. PM Modi previously assured complete central support to Tamil Nadu and assigned Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to assess the situation.
CM Stalin expressed gratitude for PM Modi's swift response to the flood-affected locals. In a social media post, he outlined the urgent need for financial support from the Union government, detailing the extensive rescue and relief efforts undertaken by the state despite resource constraints.
In response, PM Modi assured full support, underscoring the collaborative effort to overcome the dual challenges faced by Tamil Nadu. The region battles not only the immediate aftermath of Cyclone 'Michaung' but also the subsequent flooding, with efforts focused on providing relief to the affected population.
