Bihar: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stirred a controversy on Saturday with his remarks about women's attire during his Pragati Yatra visit to Begusarai. While addressing members of the Jeevika Didis program, the CM commented on how women's clothing has improved over the years. Ministers Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Samrat Chaudhary were also present during the event.

In his interaction, Nitish Kumar said, "Earlier, women didn’t dress like this. Now, they wear beautiful clothes and speak so confidently. This is very good progress. Wherever I go, I always make it a point to meet the Jeevika Didis."

Previous controversial remarks

Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra, which spans across Bihar, has previously sparked similar debates. During his visit to Saran, the CM commented that "We are all born of mothers," a statement that reportedly left Samrat Chaudhary visibly uneasy.

Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav respond

RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav took a jibe at Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra, calling it an excuse to "ogle." Lalu’s son and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav criticized the CM’s comments, suggesting Nitish’s health was failing. "He needs rest; he looks tired," Tejashwi remarked.

Development announcements in Begusarai

Amidst the controversy, Nitish Kumar inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 640 development projects worth ₹558 crore in Begusarai. The Pragati Yatra is seen as part of the CM's campaign efforts ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections later this year.

The third phase of the Pragati Yatra marks Nitish Kumar’s continued outreach to the public, highlighting the state government’s achievements.
