Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the wisdom and intelligence of Indian voters, who, according to him, prioritised performance over propaganda to elect him for a third term during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, PM Modi said, “We feel proud of the wisdom and intelligence of the people of this country in these elections. They defeated propaganda. They prioritised performance. They rejected the politics of deceit and put a stamp of victory on the politics of trust.”

Historical Mandate Amid Opposition Interruptions

Amid disruptions from the Opposition benches, Modi highlighted the significance of his third consecutive term, a feat achieved after many decades in independent India’s parliamentary history. “After 60 years, it has happened that the government has returned after being in power for 10 years. I realise this is not an ordinary thing. Some people deliberately tried to black out this decision given by the public…,” he said. Modi emphasised that this third mandate is a chance to realise the goals of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India).

Focus on Poverty and Basic Facilities

Modi assured that the next five years of his term would focus on eradicating poverty and ensuring basic facilities for all. “This country will emerge victorious against poverty in the next five years, and I am saying this based on the experience of the past 10 years. When India becomes the third-largest economy in the world, its impact will be on every sphere of life,” he stated.

Emphasising the importance of the Constitution, Modi said for his party BJP, it is not just a compilation of articles but holds significant importance in both spirit and words. “It acts like a lighthouse for governments,” he added, highlighting that Constitution Day will spread its spirit throughout the country.
