New Delhi: As Haryana gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, All India Congress Committee General Secretary, former Union Minister and MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja has called on voters to support the Congress party to preserve the nation’s unity and constitutional values. She criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly fostering division and attempting to undermine the country's Constitution and reservation system. Selja emphasized that Congress is committed to safeguarding constitutional integrity and promoting social harmony.

Selja promotes Congress as defender of unity and justice

In a statement to the media, Selja highlighted Congress’s dedication to maintaining national unity, mutual harmony and justice. She accused the BJP of spreading hatred under the guise of religion and attempting to interfere with the Constitution and reservation policies. "The people of the state are standing with Congress to protect the Constitution and brotherhood, and they will vote for Congress to ensure a majority government," Selja said.

Selja’s remarks come amid rising concerns about BJP’s divisive tactics and alleged efforts to dismantle constitutional safeguards. "Today, the people of the country and the state are standing against BJP’s conspiracy to undermine the Constitution," she stated. According to Selja, Congress is the only party capable of defending the Constitution, combating rising hatred, and fostering a sense of unity among the diverse communities of India.

Selja slams BJP's constitutional change intentions

Selja reaffirmed Congress's ongoing struggle to defend the Constitution and protect the rights of marginalized communities. She noted that Dalits and backward classes are united in their resolve to prevent any amendments to the Constitution drafted by Dr BR Ambedkar. "Every Congress worker, every man, and every woman associated with the party is a guardian of the Constitution," Selja added. She also criticized BJP leaders who had suggested changing the Constitution if the party achieved a supermajority, highlighting it as a reflection of their true intentions.

Support for caste-based census and rights

Selja defended Rahul Gandhi’s support for a caste-based census, stating that it is not an unreasonable demand. She argued that such a census would provide a clearer understanding of people’s conditions and shift the political landscape in India. She emphasized that the Constitution ensures benefits for tribals, Dalits, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and it secures their rights over natural resources such as water, land, and forests.

Congress’s commitment to reservation rights

Selja assured that Congress will not allow any infringement on the rights granted by the reservation system. She accused the BJP of misleading the public and assured that the people are now aware of BJP’s true nature. “The public will ensure a Congress government in the state,” she concluded.
