A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Mumbai police after he allegedly talked about ‘hijacking’ in a Vistara flight. The man, identified as Ritesh Sanjaykumar Juneja, was reported by the fight crew members who overheard him talking over the phone about ‘hijacking’.

Mumbai police officials said that the incident, which took place on Thursday night at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, involved a Delhi-bound Vistara flight.

“A crew member of the Vistara flight, which was to go to Delhi, overheard a male passenger talking about hijacking on his phone. The crew member immediately informed the authorities and the police were also alerted,” the official said.

Subsequently, an FIR was registered against the person under Sections 336 and 552 of the IPC.

Passenger claims that mental illness reason for ‘hijack’ talk

The detained passenger has claimed that he is mentally ill, which is the reason for his phone conversation about ‘hijacking’.

The police are yet to verify the man’s claims. Further probe is underway.

Second flight-scare in two weeks in India

This latest in-flight scare came after the arrest of a UP man on June 7 on a Mumbai-bound Vistara fight. The man was arrested after a passenger complained about him talking about a ‘bomb’ inside the flight. He was later released after it was revealed that the man was talking about an unrelated matter with his relative.
