Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla on Monday suspended 31 opposition MPs for the remaining duration of the Parliament Winter Session, among them was Congress veteran Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

According to the sources, the move has been taken in response to complaints by Members of Parliament calling for a reply from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the security lapse in the Lok Sabha.

The move has been followed by the speaker days after 13 MPs were suspended from the house displaying placards and misbehaviour.

The suspended MPs include Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Congress's leader in Lok Sabha, and Gaurav Gogoi, deputy leader of the party in the House. Trinamool MPs Kalyan Banerjee, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Saugata Ray and Satabdi Roy, and DMK members A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran are among the members on the list.

It is to be noted here that the opposition has been demanding the statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Parliament security breach and reinstatement of 13 suspended MPs. Responding to which, PM Modi on Saturday during an interview to media persons said that there was a need of probe in the incident, not a debate in the parliament.
