The Parliament Winter Session which has been witnessing ruckus since the security breach on December 13, the anniversary of 2001 Parliament terror attack, has seen another suspension on Tuesday. 49 more opposition MPs have been suspended from Parliament for the remainder of Winter Session, taking the number to 142.

On Monday, a total of 78 MPs, 33 from Lok Sabha and 45 from Rajya Sabha were suspended for the remainder of winter session.
The action came after the House faced adjournments, with opposition members raising slogans and displaying placards over their demands. The MPs have been demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah over the Parliament security breach on December 13.

Before this, 33 MPs were already suspended on December 18, including prominent figures like Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and others. Notably, this latest move further escalates the tension between the government and opposition.

‘It is anarchy inside the Parliament’: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

Speaking about the suspension of more MPs on Tuesday from the Parliament for the remainder of Winter Session, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that “It is nothing but anarchy inside the Parliament. They (BJP) do not have an iota of faith in the parliamentary system in our country.”

According to the sources, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal brought the motion to suspend the members.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that the members had been suspended for showing placards and that all MPs had agreed that they will not resort to this in the new Parliament building. He said the opposition members had broken rules and disrespected the Chair.
