Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 to the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passage on Thursday, Day 4 of the ongoing Parliament Winter Session.

The Lok Sabha had earlier on Wednesday approved the two legislations.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were passed by the House following a two-day long, intense debate.

It is to be noted here that the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, that was introduced in Lok Sabha on July 26, 2023, amends the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act of 2004.

The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act guarantees employment reservations and admittance to professional institutions for individuals belonging to these and other socially and educationally disadvantaged groups.

Discussion on Country’s economic situation

A short-duration discussion on the "Economic Situation in the country” will continue on Day 4. The same was raised by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien on Tuesday, December 5.

On Tuesday, during the short-duration discussion on 'Economic situation in the country' in Rajya Sabha, Congress MP & former Union finance minister P Chidambaram asked, "if India is growing at the fastest rate in the world, then why is the impact of the growth not felt on the ground?"

In addition to this, BJP MPs Anil Jain and Neeraj Shekhar are likely to present the 249th and 250th reports (in English and Hindi) of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs in the Rajya Sabha, as per sources.

The Parliament Winter Session began on December 4 and will conclude on December 22.
