Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also ordered an immediate enquiry into this controversial Parliament security breach incident.

Taking it to X, the spokesperson of the MHA said, “On request from Lok Sabha Secretariat, MHA has ordered an enquiry of parliament security breach incident. An Enquiry Committee has been set up under Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF, with members from other security agencies and experts.”

"The Enquiry Committee will investigate the reasons for breaches in the security of Parliament, identify lapses and recommend further action. The Committee will submit its report with recommendations, including suggestions on improving security in Parliament, at the earliest," it added.

This came just after the Lok Sabha Secretary General wrote to the Home Ministry to conduct a high-level inquiry into the entire incident.

What happened in Lok Sabha during Zero Hour on Wednesday?

The shocking incident occurred on the 22nd anniversary of a terror attack that left nine dead at the complex in 2001. On Wednesday, a major security breach unfolded in India's Parliament as two intruders infiltrated the Lok Sabha chamber.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man and woman leap from the visitors' gallery above during a session, brandishing canisters. They proceeded to release yellow gas while shouting slogans, prompting panic among attending Members of Parliament.

6 people involved in smoke scare incident

According to the media reports, there were six people involved in this incident. Two individuals - Sagar Sharma and D Manoranjan - deployed yellow smoke canisters inside the Lok Sabha, and two others - Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde - burst red and yellow canisters outside the Parliament. The fifth has been named as Lalit Jha, at whose Gurgaon home the other five stayed.

The sixth is Vicky Sharma, also from Gurgaon, and he has also been arrested.

Video footage captured the dramatic moments as the pair were swiftly tackled by security personnel. MPs alleged they witnessed the duo dispensing gas before being overpowered.

Proceedings were immediately suspended as cries rang out inside the chamber. Officials cleared the room to assess the situation amid the chaos.

An investigation into the unprecedented security lapse is now underway, with tough questions being asked about how the intruders accessed the highly fortified location. The Lok Sabha now stands adjourned until this afternoon as stunned disbelief ripples through India's Parliament.
