The Parliament Budget Session for 2025 is scheduled from January 31 to April 4, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman preparing to present her eighth consecutive Union Budget on February 1. The session will be divided into two phases, with the first part running from January 31 to February 13, and the second part commencing on March 10, concluding on April 4.

Opening ceremony and economic survey

As is customary, the session will commence with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31. Following this, the government will table the Economic Survey, outlining the nation's economic performance and setting the tone for the upcoming budget discussions.

First phase: Initial discussions and responses

The first segment will include nine sittings, during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address. Finance Minister Sitharaman will also address debates and discussions concerning the budget proposals, ensuring clarity on fiscal priorities and policy measures.

Recess and second phase: Finalizing the budget

After the initial phase, Parliament will take a recess to allow in-depth examination of the budget proposals by various standing committees. The second phase, beginning March 10, will focus on discussing the demands for grants of different ministries and completing the budgetary approval process. In total, the Budget Session 2025 will comprise 27 sittings.

Earlier, FM Sitharaman concluded month-long stakeholder consultations involving over 100 representatives across nine sectors, including agriculture, education, health, MSMEs, trade unions, and infrastructure. "Valuable suggestions were shared, and these will be carefully considered while drafting the Union Budget 2025-26," the Finance Ministry stated. Sitharaman expressed her gratitude to participants for their contributions, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusivity in policymaking.
