New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, often criticized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for nepotism, has now turned the tables by attacking the ruling party for including leaders with political backgrounds in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's council of ministers.

Gandhi's sharp attack on BJP's hypocrisy

Gandhi's pointed critique came just two days after Prime Minister Modi and his ministers took the oath for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government's third consecutive term. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the ex-Congress chief accused the BJP of hypocrisy, stating, "Those who call the tradition of struggle, service, and sacrifice of generations as nepotism are distributing the will of power to their ‘sarkari parivar’ (government with people from political families)."

Targeting PM Modi's double standards

Rahul Gandhi directly targeted Prime Minister Modi, highlighting a discrepancy between his words and actions. "This difference between the words and actions is called Narendra Modi," Gandhi added, pointing out that the PM has repeatedly condemned opposition parties for dynastic politics while his own council includes numerous leaders from political families.

Leaders with political lineage in Modi's cabinet

In his social media post, Gandhi listed several Union ministers with political backgrounds, including BJP chief JP Nadda, Piyush Goyal, HD Kumaraswamy, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju, Raksha Khadse, Chirag Paswan, Jayant Chaudhary, Ram Nath Thakur, Ram Mohan Naidu, Jitin Prasada, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Anupriya Patel, Rao Inderjit Singh, and Kirti Vardhan Singh.

Among these, HD Kumaraswamy is the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, while Jayant Chaudhary's grandfather, Chaudhary Charan Singh, briefly held the country's top post. The list also includes former Congress leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Rao Inderjit Singh, emphasizing the prevalence of political dynasties within the BJP-led government.

Rahul Gandhi's pointed remarks underscore a significant critique of the BJP's stance on dynastic politics, questioning the party's consistency and the presence of political families within its own ranks. This exchange highlights the ongoing debate on nepotism and meritocracy in Indian politics.
