Terrorist Attack: A deadly terrorist attack occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday afternoon, claiming the lives of 26 people, including two foreign nationals. The attack also left 20 others injured, who were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Terrorists struck a popular hill station, targeting tourists and causing widespread fear, which has raised serious concerns about security in the region.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar to pay his respects to the victims. In a somber and emotional moment, 26 bodies of the victims were laid out, as the Home Minister honored them. Amit Shah condemned the attack and assured that the government would take decisive actions to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also chaired a security meeting with various agencies to review the situation and formulate further steps to strengthen security in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the aftermath of the attack, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to visit the spot at Baisaran, where the terrorists launched their assault. The team will conduct a detailed investigation to identify the terrorist group behind this attack and gather intelligence to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Following the tragic incident, the Anantnag police have established an emergency help desk for tourists. This round-the-clock service will assist those unable to contact their loved ones visiting Pahalgam. The police have issued several helpline numbers to help people in distress, ensuring that any tourists in the area can quickly reconnect with their families.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Uri region of Baramulla district on Wednesday. Two terrorists were killed during the encounter, which is still ongoing. The security forces continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that any infiltration attempts are promptly dealt with to maintain peace in the region.
In light of a call for a strike in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, all schools—both government and private—remained closed on April 23. The Chief Education Officer of Rajouri issued a notice regarding this, ensuring the safety and well-being of students amid the heightened security measures in the area.
