New Delhi: Nationwide outrage has erupted following the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, including those of tourists, on Tuesday. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held high-level meetings with top officials. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi chaired a two-hour meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), during which several decisive actions against Pakistan were approved. Additionally, the Ministry of External Affairs held a press conference to brief the nation on the measures being taken in protest of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Attari border also closed

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while addressing a press conference, said that the Indus River Water Treaty between India and Pakistan has been suspended. The Attari border has also been closed. Along with this, Pakistani citizens have been ordered to leave India within 48 hours. Visas for Pakistani citizens have been stopped.

Understand India's action

India has imposed several key measures. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 stands suspended until Pakistan credibly ceases its support for cross-border terrorism. The Attari Integrated Check Post is closed effective immediately. Individuals who crossed the border with valid documentation can return via this route before May 1, 2025. Pakistani nationals are no longer permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. All SPES visas issued to Pakistani nationals are considered void. India has mandated that Pakistani nationals residing in the country on SPES visas must depart within a 48-hour timeframe.ndia has taken a firm stance by declaring the Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisers of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi persona non grata, mandating their exit within a week. Mirroring this action, India's diplomatic staff in similar capacities at its High Commission in Islamabad will be recalled.

Army put on alert

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced at a press conference, "The Cabinet Committee on Security has reviewed the security situation, directing all forces to stay on high alert. The CCS has resolved to ensure justice for the Pahalgam terror attack victims by bringing perpetrators and their backers to account. India's pursuit of those involved in terrorism will continue unabated, as seen in the recent extradition of Tahawuur Rana."
