National News: The painful terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, late on Tuesday evening has put the whole country in deep anger. The sudden shower of bullets in the beautiful valleys targeted tourists and local citizens. Many innocent people lost their lives in this attack, and many were seriously injured. As the horror of the attack came to light, the echo from political corridors to the international stage kept getting louder.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called this attack Pakistan sponsored and launched a scathing attack. He said, "This attack is not just on a few people, but on the whole of India. The terrorists shot people after asking their religion – this is the height of inhumanity. But we will not sit silent, our soldiers will answer brick with stone. Blood will be avenged with blood."
After the attack, Jammu University has cancelled all the programs scheduled for April 23. Everything from teaching work to student activities and library services has been postponed. At the same time, all private schools in Kashmir were also closed for a day, so that solidarity could be expressed against the terrorist attack.
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) took a tough stand against terrorism and called for a Kashmir bandh on Wednesday. The chamber clarified that the killing of innocents in the Baisaran area will be answered with a mass protest. However, tourist vehicles have been exempted from this bandh, so that the common people do not face inconvenience.
The Finance Ministry said that Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is returning to India by cutting short her visit to the US and Peru. According to the ministry, "The minister wants to be with the countrymen in this time of crisis. All preparations are being made for her early return."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing grief over the Pahalgam attack. He wrote, "We are deeply saddened by this barbaric terrorist attack. Our condolences are with the victims. Israel stands fully with India in its fight against terrorism."
