Outrage at liquor shop (X/AkhileshYadav)

A disturbing video from Ayodhya has surfaced, showing a violent altercation at a liquor shop that has sparked outrage across social media. The footage depicts a group of men mercilessly assaulting a liquor shop salesman after he refused to provide them with alcohol on credit. This incident has drawn sharp criticism from Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, who has questioned the ruling BJP government's response to such acts of violence.

What is the incident all about?

The violent episode occurred at an English liquor shop located in Jagdishpur Arwat, within the jurisdiction of the Maharajganj police station. According to police reports, five individuals, identified as Akshay Singh, Bhupendra Singh, Rahul Singh, and Gaurav, entered the shop and demanded alcohol, promising to pay for it later. When the salesman declined their request, the situation quickly escalated.

The men, enraged by the refusal, attempted to force their way into the shop by breaking the door's latch. Failing to open the door, they resorted to kicking it down and then proceeded to enter the premises, brutally assaulting the terrified salesman. The video captures the chaos as the victim desperately tries to call for help.

Political Fallout

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, took to social media to condemn the attack and the perceived inaction of the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh. Sharing the video on his official X handle, Yadav wrote, "In Ayodhya, a person from the PDA community was attacked by the ruling dominantists for not giving free liquor. Will the BJP government take any action against such people who are intoxicated with power, or will they be protected by their high-level connections? An answer and exemplary action are expected."

Yadav's comments reflect growing concerns over law and order in the state, particularly in cases where the perpetrators are believed to have political backing. The police have since arrested the accused and taken them into custody, but questions about the state's commitment to justice remain.
