All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that order must return to the proceedings of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, calling on the opposition parties to allow the Parliament to function properly.

Owaisi’s comments came as the Parliament saw fresh disruptions to its proceedings in both houses as the government and opposition parties continued its impasse over the way that the Union government has handled the three-months-long ethnic violence in Manipur.

“It’s a fair point that now no-confidence has been accepted, then the house should be allowed to function. Opposition parties should answer this question,” Owaisi said, questioning the opposition parties’ tactics of causing disruption in proceedings.

“My opinion is that the opposition should allow the parliament to function,” Owaisi later told news outlet NDTV.

‘Loss of Parliamentary time unfortunate’: Asaduddin Owaisi

The Hyderabad MP also said that the loss of parliamentary time due to the ongoing protests and chaos has been ‘unfortunate’.

“It’s unfortunate that we have lost so many days of the session. We need to ask pointed questions to the government, expose their failures. It’s unfortunate that we are missing the question hour,” Owaisi said.

‘Comparison of Manipur with Rajasthan, Bengal very wrong’: Owaisi

Asaduddin Owaisi also criticised the Union government’s attempt at comparing the sexual violence seen in Manipur with alleged incidents in Rajasthan and West Bengal. Many BJP ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have spoken about Rajasthan and West Bengal when condemning the Manipur incident.

“The government, by saying let’s discuss violence in Rajasthan and West Bengal, is trying to justify violence. It is very wrong for the cabinet minister to compare the pogrom against Kukis to incidents in other states,” Owaisi said.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 2 pm on Thursday following further disruptions caused by the opposition parties, asking the government to discuss the issue.
