Opposition MPs Suspended: Members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc are set to stage a march from Parliament House to Vijay Chowk in the national capital, addressing the suspension of MPs in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
Strategy Meeting at Rajya Sabha Leader's Office
The floor leaders of the INDIA bloc are scheduled for a Thursday morning meeting at the office of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, to strategise their approach.
Following the suspension of two more opposition MPs from Lok Sabha today, the total number of suspended members in Parliament has reached a staggering 143. The suspension action came amid repeated adjournments, with opposition members demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Parliament security breach on December 13.
The controversial mimicry incident involving Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, who mocked Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during the protest, drew strong condemnation from the ruling BJP. The opposition's demonstration on the Parliament stairs brought further attention to the ongoing suspensions.
Rahul Gandhi criticised the media for disproportionately highlighting the mimicry incident instead of discussing the suspension of members. He expressed frustration, stating that despite 150 MPs being thrown out of the House, the media's attention remains fixated on specific incidents rather than broader issues such as Adani, Rafale, and unemployment.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the disheartened state of the suspended MPs and urged the media to showcase their perspective. He called for a balanced approach, expressing concern over the media's single-focused narrative.
The march and protests signify a deepening divide and growing tensions within the Indian Parliament, as the suspension issue becomes a focal point of contention between the government and the opposition.
