India has established control rooms in Jeddah and Port Sudan and the Indian embassy in Khartoum is in coordination with them and is in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi. The ongoing conflict in Sudan between the country’s army and a paramilitary group has resulted in approximately 400 deaths. As part of the Ministry of External Affairs’ Operation Kaveri, a flight carrying 229 people arrived in Bengaluru from Jeddah on Sunday to evacuate Indian citizens from the conflict zones in Sudan.

The evacuees arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday, following the return of 365 people to Delhi the day before. The Indian embassy in Khartoum has been coordinating with control rooms in Jeddah and Port Sudan to ensure the safe return of its citizens.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on Twitter that another flight under the #OperationKaveri mission had returned with 229 passengers to Bengaluru. This comes after two batches of 754 people arrived in India on Friday as part of the evacuation mission.

Official figures indicate that a total of 1,954 Indian citizens have now been evacuated from Sudan, with the latest group of 229 arriving in Bengaluru from Jeddah. India had established a transit camp in Jeddah for evacuees, who were brought back from conflict zones in Sudan as part of Operation Kaveri.

The initial group of 360 evacuees returned to New Delhi by a commercial aircraft on Wednesday. The next group of 246 Indian evacuees arrived in Mumbai through an Indian Air Force (IAF) C17 Globemaster aircraft on Thursday.

India is using “Operation Kaveri” to transport its citizens in buses from conflict zones such as Khartoum to Port Sudan, where they are then transported to Jeddah using heavy-lift transport aircraft from the Indian Air Force and ships from the Indian Navy.

The Indians who are evacuated from Sudan are being transported back home through either commercial flights or IAF’s aircraft from Jeddah. India has established separate control rooms in Jeddah and Port Sudan, and the Indian embassy in Khartoum has been in coordination with them. Additionally, they have been in contact with the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi.

There has been a violent conflict in Sudan between the army and a paramilitary group, which has caused an estimated death toll of 400 people. In response to the situation, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched “Operation Kaveri” on Monday to repatriate Indians stranded in the country.
