The seventh phase of voting in the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections will be held on June 1 and although the results will be announced on June 4, trouble might be coming. OpenAI recently made a big claim that an Israeli firm tried to disrupt the elections with an anti-BJP agenda. The reports claimed that the Israel-based firm with India at its focus made several comments criticizing the BJP and praising the opposition.

This is the culprit in the Shadows!

As per the reports, the prime focus was on the elections in May, spearheaded by an Israeli campaign management company, STOIC. OpenAI's report highlights how AI has been used in campaigns to manipulate public opinion and influence political outcomes. It noted that some of their models were being misused for these harmful activities. OpenAI said they attempted to identify the individuals involved and their goals.

Israel's play

The report reveals that a network of accounts based in Israel was responsible for creating and editing content for a covert campaign. This content was distributed across social media platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, websites, and YouTube. OpenAI stated that in early May, this network began targeting audiences in India with English-language content.

Tech advancements are scary

Reacting to the report, Union Electronics and Technology Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said it was clear that the BJP was being targeted with misinformation and foreign interference, possibly by some Indian political parties or their affiliates. He described this as extremely dangerous for the country's democracy. Chandrashekhar emphasized that such agendas, driven by vested interests both within and outside India, need thorough investigation and exposure.
