22 Naxals gunned down (File )
Chhattisgarh: In the Bijapur encounter, a joint squad conducted an anti-Naxalite operation in the Gangalur police station area and a shootout took place between the Naxalites and security personnel at 07:00 am on Thursday. One District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed in the operation. Security forces recovered the bodies of 18 Naxalites in the area, as well as a huge cache of weapons and ammunition.
A search operation in the area is still ongoing. Four Naxalites were gunned down in a shootout with security personnel close to the Koroskodo village in the Chhotebethiya police station area today. Earlier, a group of security personnel escaped by the skin of their teeth when Naxalites detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Thursday.
There was no significant injury in the blast, though two policemen were taken away from the scene for medical care. The mishap took place around 3 am in Abujhmaad area when a joint team of Chhattisgarh Police's DRG company and Special Task Force (STF) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a police officer said. Three Naxalites had surrendered to security personnel in the Sukma district on Tuesday, two of them with a combined reward of Rs 4 lakh. Madkam Erra Babu (26), Sodi Deva (35) and Madkam Hadma (41) laid down arms before security personnel citing "inhuman and hollow" Maoist ideology, an official added.
