Onam celebrations in full swing! Here’s what different politicians have to say

The festive season has come in full swing in Kerala as the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram can be seen adorned in lights. The theme for this year’s Onam festival is ‘Onam, Oru Eenam’ (Onam, the symphony of harmony). President Murmu, Kerala CM Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan as well as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin took to their social media handles on ‘X’ (twitter) and wished everyone on Onam.

Onam a celebration of prosperity: Kerala CM

On Tuesday morning the the CM of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan extended his wishes to everyone on Onam. He said that the festivals is an embody of prosperity, brotherhood and equality which should inspire us to strengthen human unity beyond caste and religious divisions. He took to ‘X’ and said “Onam is a celebration of prosperity, brotherhood and equality. Onam should inspire us to strengthen human unity beyond caste and religious divisions. Celebrations should be a gathering of minds that are not contaminated by divisive thoughts. Happy Onam with love to all.”

President of India, Draupadi Murmu has also extended her greetings on the eve of the festival emphasising on the social harmony Onam creates as everyone irrespective of caste and religion comes together in celebration She also spoke on Kerala’s rich cultural heritage as the festival marks the beginning of the harvest season in her message.

“This festival is also an occasion to express gratitude towards nature. Celebration of this festival by all irrespective of their religious and caste identities also gives a message of social harmony,” President Murmu said.

Her post on social media extended her best wishes to fellow citizens living in India and abroad and hoped that this joyous occasion to usher prosperity and harmony among all. She said “Greetings to all fellow citizens and our brothers and sisters in Kerala on Onam! On this auspicious occasion we express our gratitude to Mother Nature for the countless bounties. May this harvest festival usher in prosperity and the spirit of harmony among all.”

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin also extended his wishes on Onam as he put forward a post ‘X’ (twitter). Stalin posted the greetings on Tuesday morning on his ‘X’ handle, written in Malyali.

Onam- ‘a joyous festival’

The exciting festivities of Onam in the state of Kerala have marked the calendar from August 20 to August 31 this year and celebrates the return of the revered King Mahabali, also known as Maveli. For this festival that honours King Mahabali and Vamana and people have constructed floral carpets (Pookkalam) in front of their homes and institutions. Celebrations of many kinds begin today in schools, universities, offices, and other locations.

The festival is celebrated during the Chingam month and marks the beginning of the Malayalam calendar. Family members and friends gather together in celebration, exchanging gifts and sweets. Moreover, the crowd can be seen beautifully adorned in their traditional kasavu saris and mundu (dhoti).

Former Rajya Sabha MP and actor Suresh Gopi inaugurates the Onam celebrations at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.We can also see the Prince Adithya Varma of Travancore royal family participating in the festival’s celebrations.

To get their blessings and offer prayers during this auspicious festival people are visiting various temples across the state. Thrikkakkara Vamana Moorthy Temple in Kochi is crowded as devotees rush to the temple to offer prayers. Similarly, crowds of devotees also visited the Pazhavangaadi Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram to pray for a good harvest.
