New Delhi: On Monday night in the capital of Oman, Muscat, there was a rare militant attack by the Islamic State near a Shia mosque that resulted in at least six deaths, including an Indian national and a policeman, and 28 injuries.Following the shooting incident reported in Muscat city on 15 July, Foreign Ministry of Sultanate of Oman has informed that one Indian national has lost his life & another is injured. Four Pakistanis were among the dead in what Pakistan called a terrorist attack on the Imam Ali Mosque, the country acknowledged. India also announced the passing of one of its nationals.The attack was attributed to the Islamic State (ISIS). Notably, in nations like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, ISIS has regularly targeted Shia worshippers, processions, and celebrations. But this is the first time ISIS has claimed responsibility for an attack in Oman, a country where Shia Muslims make up a minority.
