New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief, Mehbooba Mufti, launched a scathing attack on the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance during a press conference in Srinagar. Mufti claimed that the alliance lacks a clear agenda and is merely focused on seat-sharing arrangements.

As the state gears up for elections, set to be held in three phases starting next month, the PDP chief also unveiled her party's manifesto, which promises reforms including 200 units of free electricity and the restoration of the old pension scheme.

Conditional support to NC-Congress alliance

During the press conference, Mufti expressed her willingness to support the NC-Congress alliance if they agree to adopt the PDP’s manifesto and commit to resolving the Kashmir issue. She stated, "If NC and Congress are ready to accept our manifesto and agree on a solution to the Kashmir issue, we will support them without contesting any seat. For me, a solution to the Kashmir issue is more important than anything else."

Key promises in PDP manifesto

The PDP manifesto emphasizes restoring trade between India and Pakistan across the Line of Control (LoC) as a crucial step toward peace. Mufti also promised to provide 200 units of free electricity to households and to restore the old pension scheme if the PDP came to power. Additionally, the manifesto outlines plans to increase the honorarium for contract teachers and to re-implement the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed scheme, which aims to ensure adequate food and ration supplies to families with 1 to 6 members. Another notable promise includes providing 12 cylinders of LPG per year to poor families.

Focus on Sharda Peeth, religious pilgrimage

Mufti further pledged to promote Sharda Peeth, a revered site across the Line of Control, as a full-fledged religious pilgrimage destination. This initiative, she believes, would enhance cultural and religious ties between communities.
