The train crash involving Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train occurred around 7 pm on Friday in Balasore district of Odisha. Rescue teams were engaged in relief efforts to free passengers trapped in the damaged rail coaches and recover bodies throughout the night. As per media sources, now the rescue operations have ended and around 238 people have died in the mishap.
As per railways officials, no one from the reserved coaches have got injured or died while a few passengers from the GS coach have suffered some injuries.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed Mi-17 helicopters for the avcuation of deceased and injured during the accident, as per the sources from Eastern Command.
As per the Eastern Command, IAF is coordinating with the civil administration and Indian Railways for the rescue operations.
