In a dramatic development, notorious gangster Chotu Mishra was gunned down in a police encounter in Kaura village near Jagdishpur, Bhojpur district. The dreaded criminal, notorious for his gruesome crimes, succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Wednesday.
Chotu Mishra, a resident of Madhukar Pur village in Rohtas district, was a son of a retired army personnel. He had also fled from a police encounter almost four years ago when his mother was unfortunately killed. But this time, the law had caught hold of him.
Residing in a rented bungalow in Shivpur, Anand Nagar, Chotu Mishra had a long criminal record against his name, and he had been accused of numerous cases of murder, extortion, and firing on policemen. He had only received bail three months ago from Bhagalpur Jail, though previously he had some encounters with the police.
One of the most notorious cases against Mishra was on January 11, 2021, when he had a shootout with the police in the Nagar police station area. Although he escaped arrest, his mother was gunned down in the firing. Subsequently, on July 4, he mercilessly shot contractor Raju Yadav in daylight at Sapna Cinema Mode, and he was arrested. His name also came up in the killing of dreaded gangster Mithilesh Paswan last June, joining his long list of criminal escapades.
According to police records, Chotu Mishra was notorious for his indiscriminate use of weapons. He would threaten individuals prior to launching his attack. On 13 March 2021, he was accused of shooting grocery store owner Anjani Singh over a dispute over a minor accident. The victim had filed an FIR against Mishra and seven others.
In yet another shocking case, Mishra fired at two students over a small scuffle, killing a schoolboy. This offense put him behind bars, but his criminal pursuits did not stop even after his release. On 22 May 2019, he and his accomplices fired at Mirganj, killing student Balram Singh and injuring another student named Monu Singh. The father of the victim, Shri Bhagwan Singh, had registered a case against three accused persons, including Mishra.
Chotu Mishra's reign of terror ended at last in a police shootout, bringing to an end one of Bihar's most notorious criminals.
