Parts of North India will remain in the grip of cold wave conditions and dense fog over the next 2-3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted.
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan are likely to experience chilly temperatures till January 3, decreasing thereafter. In Punjab, dense fog could persist in some areas till January 5.
According to the IMD, Delhi's maximum temperature to reach 19°C by January 7. Minimums around 9°C are expected on January 2 and 6. Delhi will see shallow fog and clear skies over the next week.

Night temperatures across central India are predicted to fall during January 5-11, resulting in cold waves. Daytime temperatures will also remain below normal, especially in Madhya Pradesh, parts of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
South Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep could witness light to moderate rainfall over the next 3-4 days.
Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive light isolated rainfall between January 2-5.
The extended chilly and foggy conditions will impact travel and daily activities across the northern plains. Citizens are advised to take precautions like wearing warm clothing and avoiding unnecessary outdoor exposure. Timely forecasts from IMD will help people brace for the harsh weather in the first week of the new year.
