The northern region including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are drenched with heavy rainfall and will continue to experience the same today (July 10) as well, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Since Monsoon arrived, it has not only given relief from the severe heat waves but also has shown its fury in many parts of the country. As heavy downpours lashed the states, it disrupted normal life, causing multiple deaths, waterlogging, traffic congestions, building collapses, swept cars away and washed away bridges.
On Sunday, India received 81 per cent above-normal rainfall while the national capital recorded the highest rainfall in four decades (40 years).
As per the IMD report on Sunday, Himachal Pradesh received 104 mm rainfall, which was almost 13 times above normal. The single-day rainfall in Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir was around nine times above normal, while that in Punjab was over 12 times above normal.
In the national capital, Delhi, amid the continuous two-day rainfall, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the closure of all schools for today. Also, it is expected that the water level of Yamuna River will exceed the danger mark of 205.33 metres by Tuesday.
Following the prevailing situation in the Delhi-NCR, the district administration in Noida has also ordered to keep the schools shut on Monday. Likewise, schools in Ghaziabad and Faridabad will also remain closed for the day.
