The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into alleged irregularities found in the NEET-UG examination and found malpractices, particularly at centers of Gujarat’s Godhara. According to India Today sources, the CBI has found that the candidates from states like Odisha, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Odisha were asked to opt for Gujarati as their language for the exam.

As reported, this was to help the local aspirants who were involved in the malpractices to help them in filling out the sheets. Not only this, the candidates were also instructed to falsify documents and show their permanent address as being from Panchmahal or Vadodara.

However, the official statement from the investigating agency is still awaited.

So far, the CBI has taken five individuals in custody in connection with the alleged malpractices in the entrance exam that was held on May 5. The agency has registered six FIRs for cheating across Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra and has arrested 11 people so far.

Notably, the CBI who took over the probe last month is still investigating the case and now focusing on unearthing ‘inter-state links’ as a part of a larger conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday said that it will hear the NEET-UG case on July 18. The order noted that some of the parties in the case haven't received the affidavits filed by the Centre and NTA and they need to prepare their responses before arguments.
