Noida, Uttar Pradesh: A local strongman involved in the scrap trade, along with his wife and 14 gang members, has been slapped with charges under the Uttar Pradesh Gangster’s Act, as confirmed by Noida police on Tuesday. The stringent action against Ravi Nagar, also known as Ravindra Singh or Ravi Kana, comes in the aftermath of a rape case filed against him.

Allegations of Rape and Gang Involvement

Ravi Nagar was accused of raping a 26-year-old woman inside a car in a shopping mall's parking lot. The incident reportedly occurred in June of the previous year, with the victim reporting the matter to the police on December 30. An FIR was subsequently filed, leading to the immediate arrest of three suspects. However, Ravi Nagar and his associate Mehmi remain at large, with ongoing efforts to apprehend them, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Harish Chander.

Additional FIR Under the Gangsters Act

Following the gang rape incident, an additional FIR has been lodged against Ravi Nagar and his associates under the UP Gangsters Act at the Beta 2 police station in Greater Noida. Nagar, previously a witness in a case against gangster Sundar Bhati, had enjoyed police protection, which has now been revoked.

Ongoing Crackdown on Organised Crime

Under the directives of Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, continuous action is being taken against organised crime in Gautam Buddh Nagar. As part of this initiative, an FIR has been registered against Ravi Nagar and his gang under the Gangsters Act, leading to the arrest of four individuals so far, according to DCP (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan. Further legal proceedings are underway, and strict action will be taken against the accused.

Illegal Business Practices

The gang, led by Ravi Nagar, is primarily involved in scrap dealing and TMT bars, employing unlawful means such as theft, loot, and intimidation to expand its business. The police note that the gang's business has illegally surged by 97% in the last three years.

The case underscores the need for swift and stringent legal action against individuals engaged in criminal activities, promoting public safety and justice for the victims.
