In a rigorous enforcement drive, Noida and Greater Noida police have lodged 19 FIRs in the past three days against parents of minors found driving or riding vehicles in violation of traffic laws. This information was confirmed by officials on Friday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav, nine FIRs were lodged on Friday, with five each on Thursday and Wednesday. The charges fall under the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The FIRs were primarily registered under BNS Section 125, which pertains to acts done rashly or negligently that endanger human life or personal safety. Additionally, relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 207 (which grants the power to detain vehicles used without proper certification or registration), were also applied.

"Nine such FIRs were lodged on Friday, and five each on Thursday and Wednesday, totalling 19 such cases in three days in which underage drivers/riders were found in violation of the law," DCP Yadav told PTI.

Police Warning and Legal Consequences

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate issued a stringent warning on July 9, addressing parents about the consequences of underage driving. The warning highlighted severe penalties, including fines up to Rs 25,000, potential legal action against parents or guardians, 12-month vehicle registration cancellation, and restrictions on obtaining a driving license until the minor turns 25.

Broader Campaign for Road Safety

This crackdown is part of a larger campaign aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic laws. DCP Yadav emphasized the importance of adherence to traffic rules to prevent incidents involving minors, which have been reported not only in Noida and Greater Noida but also across other parts of the country.

Call for Compliance

DCP Yadav also urged all commuters to strictly follow traffic regulations to ensure overall road safety. The police continue to stress the critical role of parents and guardians in preventing underage driving and promoting safer roads.
