New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, Sector 24 police station arrested three notorious snatchers, identified as Shivam Kalu, Aniket Gupta, and Gautam, involved in multiple mobile and chain snatching incidents. The arrests were made following an operation in which the police recovered illegal firearms and ammunition, as well as a large sum of cash.Seizure of weapons and cashDuring the arrest, the police recovered a 315-bore illegal pistol, two live cartridges, and an illegal knife from the possession of the accused. Additionally, ₹10,000 in cash was seized during the operation, which was part of the gangs loot from their snatching activities across Noida.Gangs involvement in snatching incidentsThe arrested accused, Gautam, son of Govind, confessed during interrogation that he and his gang were responsible for a recent chain-snatching incident in the Sector 100 area, under the jurisdiction of Sector 39 police station. According to Gautam, the stolen goods were hidden in the forest area of Sector 42, prompting a joint police team from Sector 24 and Sector 39 police stations to organize a recovery mission.Armed confrontation during recoveryWhen the police escorted Gautam to recover the stolen items, the situation escalated. Gautam pulled out a pistol from his bag and fired at the police, intending to kill and escape custody. In response, the police retaliated with gunfire, injuring Gautam in the right leg. He was immediately subdued and transported to the district hospital for medical treatment.Ongoing investigation and search for other gang membersWith Gautam now in custody, efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang. The police are also conducting investigations to establish the full criminal history of the arrested individuals. The gang is suspected to be involved in several other snatching and robbery cases in the region.The successful operation by the Noida police highlights the commitment to tackling crime in the city. With the arrest of these three individuals, the police have not only recovered stolen property but also neutralized a dangerous gang that had been terrorizing the area.
