J-K News: In his first official act as the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah has instructed the union territory's police to minimize public inconvenience during VIP movements. Abdullah emphasized the need for a more people-friendly approach, directing law enforcement to avoid unnecessary disruptions, such as "stick-waving" and "aggressive gestures" during his road movements. He also requested that a "green corridor" should not be created for his travel, highlighting his intention to prioritize public comfort.

Prioritizing public convenience

Omar Abdullah took a clear stance on making governance more considerate of the public. In a post on X, he stated, "I have spoken to the DG, Jammu and Kashmir police, that there is to be no ‘green corridor’ or traffic stoppage when I move anywhere by road. I have instructed him to minimize public inconvenience, & the use of sirens is to be minimal. The use of any stick waving or aggressive gestures is to be totally avoided." Abdullah also called on his cabinet members to follow this example, stressing that the government is meant to serve the people, not inconvenience them.

Cooperation with the union government

Upon taking office, Omar Abdullah expressed his desire to work closely with the Union government, addressing the challenges of leading a Union territory. He expressed hope that Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a Union territory would be temporary, with the eventual goal of restoring its statehood. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Abdullah and assured cooperation for the progress of the region.
