Former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "lowering the dignity of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) with hate speeches." He further stated that he never singled out a community for special treatment, alleging him of using 'vicious form of hate speeches' that he claimed were divisive. Dr Singh made this scathing attack on PM Modi in a three-page appeal to the voters of Punjab.

PM indulged in hateful, unparliamentary and coarse terms: Dr Singh

Without mentioning any specific community's name, Dr Singh said that PM Modi had lowered the gravity of the office of Prime Minister. No PM in the past had uttered such terms that were meant to target a specific section of society or the opposition. Dr Singh also said that some false statements were also attributed to him by PM. He further stated that he had never in his life indulged in such activity as singling out one community.

Dr Singh was referring to PM Modi's claim that Manmohan Singh had said in 2006 that Muslims had first claim on the country's resources.

Blamed PM for castigating Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat

Dr Singh said that the BJP government has left no stone unturned in deriding the Punjabis. He said that 750 farmers, mostly were killed while waiting impatiently for months on end at the boundaries of Delhi (during demonstrations against the farm regulations that have since been overturned). As if the rubber bullets and lathis weren't enough, our farmers were called "Andolanjeevis" and "Parjeevi" (parasites) by the Prime Minister himself on the Parliament floor.

Congress pledge to abolish Agniveer scheme

He mentioned that the BJP government imposed the Agniveer Scheme on the Armed Forces, which he described as ill-conceived. According to him, the BJP's view that the value of patriotism, bravery, and service is limited to four years demonstrates their fake nationalism. He expressed that those who had trained for regular recruitment felt betrayed by the previous regime. The youth of Punjab, particularly farmers' sons who aspire to serve in the Armed Forces, are now hesitant to join due to the scheme's limited four-year tenure. He argued that the Agniveer Scheme endangers national security and stated that the Congress party has pledged to abolish it.
