New Delhi: During his three-day official visit to the Maldives, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the unique and significant relationship between India and the Maldives. He stated that the Maldives is no ordinary neighbor to India, highlighting the historical and ongoing ties that bind the two nations. Jaishankars visit, the first high-level trip from India following the election of pro-China President Mohammad Muizzu, aims to reset and strengthen bilateral relations.Indias commitment to maldivesWhile addressing the Indian diaspora in the Maldives, Jaishankar reaffirmed Indias commitment to nurturing its relationship with the island nation. He cited various instances, such as Indias assistance during the 2004 Tsunami, the Male water crisis, and the recent Covid-19 vaccination efforts, where India stood by the Maldives in times of need.
