Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy has ignited a national travel fervour towards Lakshadweep, urging Indians to explore the archipelago's "untapped paradise" instead of venturing abroad. "No need to go to New Zealand or Switzerland...Everything is in Lakshadweep," Reddy said to ANI, highlighting the islands' immense tourism potential.
"It's not just about stunning landscapes," emphasized Reddy. He outlined the government's commitment to developing crucial infrastructure in Lakshadweep, including an airport, improved healthcare facilities, and fast internet access. Preserving the islands' "vibrant local culture" remains a key priority, he assured.
While acknowledging current limitations in air connectivity, Reddy called upon travellers to become "ambassadors" for Lakshadweep, spreading the word about its hidden treasures and advocating for responsible tourism practices.
The latest development came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Lakshadweep, which sparked a digital firestorm of interest. Since Modi's captivating social media posts featuring dazzling turquoise waters and pristine beaches, Lakshadweep has dominated Google searches for two consecutive days as it remained the most searched keyword in India. The PM described the experience as "exhilarating" and his call to "embrace the adventurer" within resonated deeply with the public.
In a series of posts on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared pictures of the white beaches and the perfect blue skies and the ocean, with a caption that read, "For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on your list."
After PM Modi's visits, people's interest in the Union Territory peaked on Friday, as more than 50,000 users Googled as the Prime Minister said that he is "still in awe" of the "stunning" beauty of the Lakshadweep islands and the "incredible warmth" of its people.
