No more praising Akbar as 'GREAT' in schools: Rajasthan education minster

Further, Dilawar criticized past curriculum choices, particularly the depiction of Veer Savarkar and Shivaji. He vowed to remove any misleading information, stating, "We don't need to make any changes in the curriculum, but the contents that make any unethical statements or disrespect great men will be removed."

New Delhi: Rajasthan's Education Minister, Madan Dilawar, announced a significant shift in the state's educational curriculum, declaring that Mughal Emperor Akbar will no longer be portrayed as a great historical figure in schools. Speaking at the 28th state-level "Bhama Shah Samman Samaroh" held at Udaipur's Sukhadia University on Sunday, the minister harshly criticized Akbar, accusing him of plundering the country and asserting that no one should celebrate him as a "great personality."

This move follows Dilawar's earlier remarks in January, where he controversially labeled Akbar as "a rapist" and advocated for the removal of any references in school textbooks that glorify the emperor. The minister's statements were part of a broader push to revise the school curriculum to reflect what he considers a more accurate portrayal of historical figures.

Dilawar lamented that Maharana Pratap, known for his sacrifices for the dignity of Mewar, has not received the recognition he deserves in historical narratives. He emphasized that education should honor true heroes and that any contributions made by the Bhama Shahs for educational purposes will be utilized to uphold this principle.

Further, Dilawar criticized past curriculum choices, particularly the depiction of Veer Savarkar and Shivaji. He vowed to remove any misleading information, stating, "We don't need to make any changes in the curriculum, but the contents that make any unethical statements or disrespect great men will be removed." The minister concluded by praising Rajasthan's tradition of valor and sacrifice, citing Maharana Pratap, Bhama Shah, and tribal leader Govind Guru as inspirations for future generations.
