New Delhi: The West Bengal government has issued a fresh invite to protesting doctors, proposing a meeting at 5 PM on Thursday, in an attempt to resolve the month-long standoff following the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

In a letter addressed to the doctors, the government accepted the demand for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s presence at the talks but rejected the prerequisite for a live telecast of the meeting. The proposed discussions will take place in the conference hall at Nabanna, with the doctors' delegation limited to 15 members.

A secured meeting for the case?

Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, in the letter, emphasized that while live telecast won't be permitted, the meeting can be recorded to ensure transparency. "The meeting shall not be live telecast. However, the same can be recorded to maintain transparency. This will serve the purpose intended from your end, while also maintaining the sanctity of the proceedings, ensuring that all discussions are accurately documented," Pant stated.

This fresh invitation follows the state’s earlier efforts, which had been rejected by the protesting doctors, who had set specific conditions for engaging in dialogue. This is the third communication from the government in the last two days.

As of now, the protesting doctors have yet to respond to the latest proposal.
