A prominent Muslim organisation in Bihar announced that it has rejected Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's 'iftar' invitation over his 'support' to the Waqf Bill. Imarat Sharia shared a copy of the letter sent in response to the 'iftar' invitation to be organised at the chief minister's residence.

Imarat Sharia claims that it has supporters in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. According to the letter, 'It has been decided not to attend the government's Iftar party on March 23. This decision has been taken in view of your (Nitish Kumar's) support for the Wakf Bill. This bill threatens to increase the economic and educational backwardness of Muslims.'

Secular Image Under Scrutiny After Iftar Snub
Imarat Sharia alleged, 'You (Nitish Kumar government) came to power promising secular governance, which includes the promise of protecting the rights of minorities. But your alliance with the BJP and support for a law that is unconstitutional and illogical is against your declared commitments.'

Political Fallout Looms as Community Ties Strain
Terming the iftar party hosted by the chief minister as "symbolic", Imarat Sharia said, "Your government's indifference to the concerns of Muslims makes such formal gatherings meaningless."
