Ferozpur, Punjab: Atleast 9 people were killed and over 15 injured in a road accident in Punjab's Ferozepur. The collission happened when a pick up van and canter truck collided. According to the locals, the pick up van was carrying workers in Ferozepur district and was heading to Jalalabad when the tragedy occured.
According to the cops, over 25-30 people were inside the pick up truck.They boarded the truck to attend an event. The deceased have been identified as Gobinda, resident of GurTu Har Sahay; Vicky, son of Biba Ram; Ravi, son of Ballu Ram; Sukhwinder, 32, son of Mahinder Singh, resident of village Mamdot;
Ferozepur district administration officials said that 10 of the injured have been referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot. Five ambulances have been deployed for relief operations. Firozpur Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said that the district administration will bear the expenses of the treatment of the injured.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expressed grief over the incident and took to twitter to convey his condolences. He wrote, I pray to god that the souls of those who died rest in peace and I pray for their speedy recovery.
He also said Punjab Government is with the affected families in this hour of crisis. He also announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the victims who lost their lives, and 50 thousand for the injured.
