Sambhal: A wedding ceremony in a village in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, descended into chaos when the groom's sister-in-law arrived shortly before the rituals began and accused him of having a relationship with her for several years.
The wedding procession was initially received with enthusiasm by the bride's family. The festive atmosphere quickly turned sour, however, when the groom's sister-in-law arrived at the venue with police officers. She created a scene, alleging that the groom had been in a long-term relationship with her and should marry her instead.
The sister-in-law's accusations sent shockwaves through the gathered guests. She proceeded to reveal details of the alleged relationship in front of the bewildered bride, who sat adorned with ceremonial henna on her hands. The commotion prompted police intervention, and they took the groom into custody for questioning.
The distraught bride was left waiting while the wedding procession was forced to return empty-handed. The incident has cast a dark shadow over the families involved.
Efforts to resolve the situation continued late into the night, with members of the local panchayat (council of elders) visiting the police station. As of now, there is no clear resolution. The groom's sister-in-law reportedly maintains her stance, insisting on marrying the groom herself.
The local police station in-charge, Kotwal Sanjeev Baliyan, confirmed that the groom was brought in based on the sister-in-law's complaint. He stated that further action would depend on the nature of the formal complaint filed.
